Training Camp 2008: A Lutheran Camp for Kids

Training Camp is a WELS kids camp endorsed by the Chicago Pastor's Conference and operated at the YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside, Illinois.

WHAT IS TRAINING CAMP ?

Training Camp is a kid's summer camp. This year will be the tenth year for the camp. The purpose of the camp is to provide an opportunity for kids in the Chicago area and beyond to grow in God's word in an outdoor setting. Since the distance involved in attending another WELS camp often serves as a barrier, the operation of a kids camp in the Chicago area provides a “closer-to-home” camping opportunity.

WHO MAY ATTEND CAMP?

Training Camp is for young people in the WELS and ELS who will be entering grades 3-9 in the fall. Non-WELS members are also welcome and have attended in previous years.

WHAT DO WE DO AT CAMP?

Under the guidance of Christian counselors your child will be involved in: daily devotions and Bible studies, arts and crafts, hiking, swimming, singing, and sports of all sorts.

WHAT ARE THE DATES?

Camp will be held for a full week from Sunday, July 27 through Friday, August 1.

WHAT ARE THE COSTS?

The total cost for this year is $200 per camper. This includes lodging, meals, crafts, lake and canoe time and canteen. Your child will not need any extra money at camp. A non-refundable $50 deposit is due with your registration form. The balance is due when you arrive at camp.

WHERE IS THE CAMP?

YMCA Camp Duncan is located on Hwy. 12, 1/4 mile north of Hwy. 120 in Ingleside, IL. Camp Duncan is situated on a 65 acre lake and encompasses 400 acres of wooded forest and rolling prairie.

HOW MANY CAN ATTEND?

We have room for 80 campers. The final deadline to register for Training Camp is July 15th. Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

WHO IS IN CHARGE?

The Chicago Pastor's Conference has a two member committee overseeing the camp. The committee members are: Pastor Andrew Bauer of Lake Zurich, IL and Pastor Michael Zarling of Racine, WI.

Click here for the registration form. Then, simply print it off, fill it out and mail as soon as possible to:

Training Camp Registrar
Mrs. Kim Harger
40433 N. Belle Foret Drive
Wadsworth, IL 60083

Make sure you enclose your $50.00 deposit. Make all checks payable to "Training Camp".

Registrations will be taken on a first come, first served basis, so mail your registration form in early. A health form and complete information on the camp will be mailed to registered campers at the beginning of summer. For additional information on the camp, ask your pastor for a camp flier or call (847) 438-5018.

The Aaron Carlovsky Memorial Scholarship Fund

Perhaps when you were younger, you had the opportunity to attend a summer camp. You remember to this day the beneficial outdoor experience. You can make it possible for another child to attend camp by sponsoring them. You could pay for the entire week, or part of a week for a child who wouldn't otherwise be able to attend.

If you would like to make a donation for this purpose, send a check in any amount to the registrar. Your gift will be used to sponsor a camper. The grants will be distributed upon the requests and recommendations of the pastors of the Chicago Pastors Conference.

Last year, several campers were able to attend camp because they were sponsored. If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Pastor Andrew Bauer.

This fund is named after Aaron Carlovsky, the son of Rev. David and Debbie Carlovsky, who now resides with Jesus in glory. Aaron attended the first two years of Training Camp when it was held at Hastings Lake.
